Gettysburg Foundation announces upcoming events The Gettysburg Foundation will be holding several special events in September. On Friday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m., Licensed Battlefield Guide Renae MacLachlan will give a presentation titled “Inside the Treasure of the Civil War” in the Ford Education Center located in the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center at 1195 Baltimore Pike, Gettysburg. The program will explore the research and stories behind the new “Treasures of the Civil War” museum exhibit that opened in June. On Saturday, Sept. 7, Licensed Battlefield Guide Ed Suplee will lead a special First Corps member tour of the National Museum of Civil War Medicine in Frederick, Md. Check-in begins at 8 a.m. outside the Group Lobby at the GNMP Museum and Visitor Center. The bus will depart at 8:30 a.m. for a guided tour of Ball’s Bluff Battlefield in Leesburg, Va. After the battlefield tour, lunch will be provided on the bus as the tour heads to Frederick. The afternoon will consist of a museum tour of the National Museum of Civil War Medicine’s facilities and exhibits as well as free time downtown. The bus will depart at 4:15 p.m. to return to Gettysburg. After spending the day at Ball’s Bluff Battlefield on Sept. 7, an evening banquet with a cash bar and dinner buffet will take place at the GNMP Museum and Visitor Center beginning at 6:30 p.m. Open to First Corps members and their guests, the cost is $175 per person for Saturday (this includes the tours, lunch and banquet) and an additional $8 per person for the Friday evening program.
