#Ghalawanji from al-#Qseir: SYP 300 million allocated to help locals repair their homes Jun 17, 2013 #Homs, (#SANA) – Deputy Prime Minister for Services Affairs Omar Ghalwanji said that SYP 300 million have been transferred to Homs Governorate to be distributed among locals in al-Qseir to help them repair their homes and shops which were damaged by armed terrorist groups. In statements to journalists during a field visit to the town of al-Qseir along with a ministerial delegation, Ghalawanji said the funds will be distributed as loans of SYP 100,000 paid directly to each of the citizens who wish to return to their home. During their visit to al-Qseir, Ghalawanji and the ministers of electricity, health, water resources and public works inspected the ongoing repairs and restoration process in the town. The ministerial delegation were briefed on progress in repairing electricity and communication networks and removing rubble from streets and neighborhoods affected by terrorism, particularly the National Hospital and the Civil Hospital which were badly damaged. Ghalawanji stressed determination to rebuild al-Qseir, affirming that water will be returned to all neighborhoods within days and that electricity has been restored almost fully to areas around the town, with electricity to be restored in the town itself within a few days. He said that 1,200 new phone lines will be put into service in the town within three days, noting that all the 15,000 lines which were in the town were put out of service by the armed groups. The Deputy Prime Minister said that a temporary clinic has been opened and stocked with necessary medicine, with work underway to secure a state-owned building to use as a temporary base for clinics. Ghalwanji called for establishing a new zoning plan for the town as soon as possible to help the reconstruction process, asserting that the government is working diligently to help citizens return to their homes and provide their needs. He instructed all services establishments in the province to submit weekly reports on their work in al-Qseir and detail the obstacles hindering their progress in order to restore life to normal in the town as soon as possible. In turn, Electricity Minister Imad Khamis said that damage to the electric grid in al-Qseir is estimated at over SYP 800 million, adding that work is underway to restore power to the town and that there will be no rationing of electricity in the town. The other three ministers also voiced commitment to finish repairs and rehabilitation of infrastructure within a week so that locals can return to their homes.
