Ghatixalus variabilis | Silent Valley National Park. This beautiful Endangered species is believed to be restricted to higher altitudes in the Western Ghats of India and only known from the Nilgiri hills. They are found in evergreen montane forest patches near mountain streams, either on ground or low in the vegetation. After exhausting 12km trek my first sight was near mountain streams which was spotted by my friend (Ashish). It was completely new to me and I did make an attempt to take few photographs. I was very much excited to explore and see more things. When I came back after an hour. It was gone. Another one hour search alone went in vain. It was mistake not to take record photograph. Next evening went alone and another hour of search & I could find one sitting close to stream. Ah finally!! Could not even ID it and confused it with its sister species Ghatixalus asterops. I hope you love this beautiful colour changing frog and wait for update to see the morphological variation displayed in the species.
