Gidday U here with my week 7 update. I hope you dont think me sneaky but this week I have been doing all my final assessments. I didnt want to say anything until I had finished, I didnt want any distractions. W.O.W.!!!!! SC Dave and I have really been put through our paces this week. We kept it very, very, very quiet because we didn’t want to worry you. I think S/C Dave was nervous too but he made sure it didnt impact on us during our tests. He did celebrate hard after each test though. SC Dave is a really experienced handler and he and Bono were a very successful team so I tried really hard to do my best, it was a very big make or break week for me. I kept my eye on the prize; accreditation as a Police Dog and the chance to one day be as good as my best mate Old Cranky Pants himself, PD Bono. Every test this week was harder than the one before but I trusted in my training and I knew S/C Dave would get us through. We were assessed in tracking through different environments residential areas, commercial and industrial areas and bush areas. It was extremely difficult but there was no need to doubt myself because I passed with flying colours, my score sheet had one tick after the other. I think LSC Ben will have RSI of the hand from ticking and the face from smiling! I was assessed in my searching and you wouldn’t believe it LSC Ben actually found some new hiding spots which were actually pretty hard (he must have read last week’s post). But still try as he may LSC Ben could never hide for too long without me finding him. I think Im actually pretty good at this gig because LSC Ben seems to find obscure places to hide and still I manage to find him. I love the look on his face when I find him - its priceless. All of my other exercises were difficult but once again my training shone through and I found I passed with confidence and style, Im still cute and adorable but now I know when to be cute and when to be confident, its important I know which to be at the right time and that will help me be a really good Police Dog. My nick name should be ET : equitable temperament, thats me, Im also going to aim for “hard but fair, just like PD Bono. I am sharp, fit, healthy, hard, energetic, strong, resilient, driven, persistent, confident and not easily distracted. After a long, difficult and challenging course I want to announce, I PASSED, I’M A POLICE DOG NOW! It is so exciting I cant even describe how I feel, just very excited and keen to get out and start working and protecting the community. When I think about PD Bono retiring I get a little sad and have to wipe a tear from my eye with my paw which frankly isnt that easy. PD Bono and I have had an up and down relationship but I understand why he was the way he was now and I couldn’t have asked for a better role model. In the beginning I worried that PD Bono didn’t like me and that he was going to try to get me into strife but now I realise he was trying to teach me some tricks of the trade and ultimately make sure I was ready and able to take over where he finished and work with and look after SC Dave as well as he did. It’s alright Bono I promise I’ll protect SC Dave and I won’t let you or him down. Im going to strive to be as good as you and then I too will have a successful career. Now that PD Bono is retiring I am sure he will have a heap of brand new adventures and he seems to be able to do almost what ever he wants now which at this stage seems to be making him very happy and content. He seems to be focussed on a plan lately, I think he is really going to enjoy his retirement. Stay tuned... Anyway I’d like to say Thankyou to each of you for following my story and giving me loads of encouragement and support. I hope my adventures have bought some light to your day, a smile to your face and knowledge that the Police Dogs train and work hard to be the best we can be and protect the community from harm. This is not the end of my blogging, its just a new chapter. I look forward to keeping you all updated with my adventures catching baddies and making our community safe.
