Gift for Christ Service Sunday, a tradition that preceded our 35 - TopicsExpress

Gift for Christ Service Sunday, a tradition that preceded our 35 years in Oberlin. Another part of that tradition has been the Pachelbel Canon, played in all sorts of ways by all sorts of people. Today, it was played by Louisa Liles, violin (a first year), and Cooper Labinger, piano (a senior). No soaring Mary Meadows soprano descant on the carols, or her usual massive Christmas solo this Sunday of the year (we miss you, Mary, in so many ways!). But Louisa did some soaring hymn descants on her violin, which was so lovely. This service and Commencement Sunday (commissioning of graduates) always remind me so much of the Scattered Church, many of whom continue to support the Gift for Christ Offering in thanks for the ministry of PCC. Lots of hard things going on in the lives of many, including students, right now...such a reminder of what Christmas is really about...enfleshed presence of the Holy. We, too, can be that wherever we are or go, especially in the places that need such a presence the most.
