Gili Trawangan was filled with stark contrasts. As a predominately Muslim island in Indonesia, it was intriguing to witness the scantily clad wanderers from all ends of the globe basking in the glow of the sun on the sandy beach as the Islamic call to prayer blared over the speakers throughout the island. Gili T has a permanent population under 1,000 and can only be reached by boat. Cars & motorbikes are not allowed on the island. The only modes of transport include walking, bicycles, or small horse drawn carriages (which were quite the adventure). As a backpackers haven, Gili T is a scuba diving, beach destination by day and a vibrant party spot by night.
