And rumors are swirling around the league that Barangay Ginebra San Miguel import Leon Rodgers is also on the way out. But Rodgers is still unfazed about the report. Rodgers assured of the position Rodgers’ agent Sheryl Reyes said on Monday that she has been assured by Ginebra coach Alfrancis Chua that the high-scoring wingman will remain with the team. “According to a text I received from team manager Alfrancis Chua as of 7 p.m., I asked him about it and he said it’s not true,” Reyes told InterAksyon in an online interview. “As a matter of fact, Leon is arranging for his kids to arrive for spring break after the GlobalPort game. For now, he wants to focus.” Freeman as Replacement The Philippine Star reported that the Gin Kings are planning to bring in two-time Best Import winner Gabe Freeman, formerly of San Miguel, to take Rodgers’ place as what a team source from Ginebra told them. The speculation comes as the Gin Kings have stumbled to a 1-2 record to start the tournament. This was contrary to Ginebras showing in the Philippine Cup where they were reeling in the elimination round in route the top seed after the elimination. Rodgers Output Rodgers has displayed his scoring prowess with Ginebra, but struggled in the endgame of the Gin Kings loss on Sunday against the San Mig Super Coffee Mixers. He scored 32 points in the first three quarters of that game but managed just three in the fourth period, when the Mixers put the Gin Kings away. But even if the report of his impending replacement is true, Reyes said Rodgers won’t take the decision personally. “He came here with an open mind.
