Ginebra duo Caguioa and Helterbrand earn spots in PBA 40 Greatest MANILA – The Fast and The Furious in The Greatest List. Isn’t that the coolest thing for a Ginebra fan? Well, the barangay will have the privilege of having their new millennium stars erected with the league’s bests as Mark Caguioa and Jayjay Helterbrand are set to be included in the 40 Greatest Players in PBA History. “I’m speechless. I never thought that I’ll be there,” said the 35-year-old Caguioa. “I’m just really surprised and thankful for being a part of the 40 Greatest. I don’t know what to say.” “That would be a great honor to be included with those other guys. That’s actually pretty cool,” the 38-year-old Helterbrand said. It’s a special achievement for the tandem that has personified the never say die spirit of Ginebra in the 2000s, and they are set to join Ginebra legends like Robert Jaworski and Allan Caidic in that list. Helterbrand entered the league in 2000, and was followed by Caguioa a year after. Since then, the duo have won numerous accolades, including four championships, and an MVP trophy for both, with Helterbrand winning his in 2008, and Caguioa following suit in 2012. The latter distinction proved to be their ticket to the elite list, and both guys are just ecstatic to be included in that honor roll. “That’s an honor for me and him to share that distinction, to be on the same team forever,” Helterbrand said. “We got here at the same time. We won championships together, we won awards together, and to be included in this list, for me, is one of the greatest honors that I could have and for sure, he’ll say the same thing.” Caguioa added, “It means that all the hard work paid off.” “What we gave back then when we’re running the team, I keep telling him to just ball out, keep playing hard, and always have that never say die attitude.
