Girl Power Hits Milwaukee Friday! Womens MMA Knocking Down Stereotypes, Attracting New Fans Thursday, January 30, 2014 (Milwaukee, WI) There was a very good reason ESPN put Ronda Rousey, the first and current UFC Womens Bantamweight Champion, on the cover of their 2012 Body Issue featuring professional athletes (sans clothing) in strikingly beautiful photographs. Definitely Body Issue cover worthy, Ronda Rousey, is also extremely popular. From roles in The Expendables 3 and Fast & Furious 7, to her stint as head coach of Team Rousey on the UFC hit show The Ultimate Fighter and making the rounds of the top late night talk shows, one thing comes through loud and clear. The public is hungry for more and more womans MMA. No longer taboo (and McCain Approved), the sport of Mixed Martial Arts, led by the Ultimate Fighting Championship, is now regulated in 47 states. Before Rousey picked up the torch and ran with it, Gina Carano, had the looks and skill to kick things off way back in 2008 as the original face of womens MMA, and was ranked on that years Top Ten Influential Women list on Yahoo. So its safe to say, not only is MMA one of the fastest growing sports in America, but the popularity of womens MMA has never been hotter and the temperatures rising. The grueling training regime mixed martial artists make part of their life is well documented. To succeed in the sport, dedication is a must, a given. There are no shortcuts to success. Respect must be given to the process, and to the participant, regardless of gender. And so it is that the ladies find themselves headlining the Main Event on North American Fighting Championship Super Brawl Pro/Am MMA tomorrow night, Friday, January 31st inside Milwaukees historic Eagles Grand Ballroom, 2401 W. Wisconsin Ave. Super Brawl actually features two womens MMA bouts as part of NAFCs 18 bout history making Pro/Am fightcard. Leaving home and warmth behind, Rio Rancho, New Mexicos Amanda Lovato hopes to heat things up as she battles Milwaukees Rocky Magdaleno. Making their mutual pro debuts, Strawweights Lovato and Magdaleno know fans expect sparks to fly once the cage door slams shut. These combatants are looking forward to putting on a memorable show for the Midwests best MMA fans, and in the bigger picture, for UFC matchmakers, much like former Milwaukeean Rose Namajunas who fought for the local promotion in 2009 and was recently signed to the UFC in December 2013. Magdaleno, fighting out of Milwaukees renowned Roufusport Academy, relocated from Michigan to focus on training full time with some of the sports best male fighters including UFC Lightweight World Champion Anthony Showtime Pettis, and a few up-and-coming female teammates, including submission specialist Kali Robbins who seeks her second win in a row Friday night. Quoting her famous movie namesake, a confident Magdaleno says It aint about how hard you can hit, its about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward! On Friday, Magdaleno would love a repeat performance of her first fight, stating “My most memorable night in the cage thus far was my first fight in Marquette, Michigan on April 11th, 2011. In front of 3,000 people, most of which were my fans, I knocked my opponent out cold in 9 seconds. The crowd blew up the arena for me. It was my favorite fight moment yet!” Lovato knows Magdaleno is coming off a :28 second TKO victory in her last fight November 2, 2013, but shes up for the challenge, offering This is going to be the toughest fight of my career so far, but I am ready for war! In the evenings Co-Main Event Middleweights Eddie Larrea (17-26, Last 6 fights 4-2) representing 1DCC Gym, Ho Chunk Nation, WI, meets Magdalenos Roufusport teammate Gerald Meerschaert III (16-6, Last 6 fights 4-2) as both of these athletes look to put another notch in their win column in a memorable way that puts them on the UFCs radar. Excellent VIP Reserved seats and General Admission tickets available at the Rave Eagles Box Office, nafc.tv and the door. Tickets $35-$70. Doors and first bout 6:00 pm.
