Girlfriend detained by photographer for not paying A Golden Week scam artist saw one young couple forced to hand out hundreds of dollars after he threatened to detain the girlfriend in his store. The young couple was site seeing at the popular Chinese tourist spot Big Wild Goose Pagoda in Shaanxi Province, when they went into a photo studio to have their pictures taken. According to Shaanxi City Express, they only wanted to choose two photos to develop, but the studio boss developed 46, pushing for them to pay for all copies. The man demanded 1380 yuan (US$225), and threatened to detain the young lady in his store if it wasn’t paid. Local police have questioned the #studio manager to investigate into the case. Chinese tourist attractions received about 25.7 million visitors from Wednesday to Sunday, the first five days of the seven-day National Day Holiday, according to Xinhua. The swarming masses appeared to have stirred some dishonest ideas from local merchants. This and similar other news have become a hot topic on China’s social media websites in recent days. “Many tourist attractions in #China have had similar cases before! Hope this will increase exposure!”, a Weibo user named @Yaoyangmengjianniluohe said. “This situation is very common. The local police should crack down these cases”, another commenter said. “I went to Xi’an one year ago. The local government was good at caring for the tourists, making everything convenient for them. But some people did things like cheating others at the train station and at some #tourist attractions. It should be properly governed. On the whole, I like Xi’an and I will visit it for a second time if I have a chance”, a Weibo user named @Dajiangegeyaokaoyan said.
