Give and Take author, Adam M. Grant is citing helpful, generous “Go-Giver of the Week” in his Huffington Post column, so Lori Ruff came to mind. To me, the most valuable givers give in specific ways that demonstrate they have taken the time to learn a bit about someone’s deepest needs and aspirations – and used their best talents and resources to help them. While I have know Lori Ruff for less than a year she has already introduced me to 14 people who admire her, vividly and generously characterizing how I could help them hone their message regarding their project or business. She understands my work well enough to introduce me to at least five kinds technology that helps me be more productive – and patiently taught non-geek me how to use these tools. She has used her extensive experience to polish my LinkedIn profile. I am not alone in experiencing her consistent giving. I’ve see her do this with many, many people – so there must be many more. She listens closely and deeply, then offers concrete ideas or introductions to help them. Just as John Hagel and John Seely Brown suggested, in their prescient book, The Power of Pull, that companies thrive by moving from “push” marketing and other outreach to “pull”, Lori embodies the power of individuals pulling others in by relevant giving. Further, she brings out the better side in diverse others. No wonder she authentically has attracted over 100,000 Twitter followers. She has never asked for a quid pro quo, just evokes a desire for apt reciprocity, in keeping with the concept of being a successful giver as outlined in your book, Give and Take. huffingtonpost/adam-grant/recognizing-givers_b_3777318.html linkedin/in/loriruff
