Glenn Beck, Eva Longoria and History Normally I do not respond - TopicsExpress

Glenn Beck, Eva Longoria and History Normally I do not respond to the likes of Glenn Beck – a loud mouth carnival freak who feeds off saying and doing bizarre things. Like the circus geek that Tyrone Power played in Nightmare Alley who would tear the heads off live chickens to get a reaction from the audience. However, when he gets into serious history Glenn Beck’s antics turn him from a geek into a freak and expose the ignorance of his right wing followers sitting slapping their legs and yelling, “You tell that Longori [sic]!” with headlines blaring “Glenn schools Longoria on her Mexican history.” In celebrating Beck’s ignorance the audience joins the cast of Nightmare Alley and they celebrate the geek. Beck joins a host of other Americans in playing the geek such as Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne and other xenophobes. They join those who deny climate change. An army pamphlet by John S. Brown is titled The Occupation of Mexico May 1846-July 1848 history.army.mil/brochures/Occupation/Occupation.htm There have been many academic conferences on the occupation, i.e., “The American Occupation of New Mexico” that feature this occupation. In 1847, at the Taos Revolt Mexican and Pueblo allies revolted against the United States occupation. U.S. troops and militia brutally crushed the rebellion and the U.S. army hanged at least 28 men in Taos for treason although they were Mexican citizens and it was during war time. We have always had geeks in our society, but in the past we knew they were geeks and we went to circuses to celebrate the urge to be bizarre. However, serious history should not be discussed by geeks on Nightmare Alley and taken as the norm. Truth matters!
