GlobalPort owner Mikee Romero countered an online report saying a deal to trade Batang Pier forward Japeth Aguilar to Barangay Ginebra San Miguel is imminent. “No deal yet,” said Romero. Aguilar, who joined GlobalPort prior to the Commissioner’s Cup from Talk ‘N Text, has been the constant subject of trade rumors, with several reports pointing to him being sent to Ginebra. Still, the athletic 6-foot-9 forward has remained with the Batang Pier amid those reports. Romero admitted that the team has received interest for the coveted Aguilar . “There are offers. I will always look at what’s best for the team,” said the team owner. A GlobalPort source said that the team’s coaching staff is against any move to tradeAguilar . “As much as possible, we want Japeth in our team,” said the source, who asked not to be named. The source added that he’d had discussions with Romero about holding on to Aguilar if “they won’t get the best deal.” “Gusto nga naming barilin yung offer eh, kasi parehas naman kami ni Mikee ng stand,” the source added.
