Glowing tributes paid to Sheikh Aziz: Srinagar, August 13: The All Parties Hurriyet Conference has paid glowing tributes to the martyred APHC leader, Sheikh Abdul Aziz on his fifth martyrdom anniversary. It was on 11th August, 2008, that Sheikh Abdul Aziz was martyred while he was leading a procession from Srinagar to the Line of Control against the economic blockade of the Valley by Hindu extremists of Jammu. A big seminar was held on the occasion in Srinagar, today. Addressing the seminar the APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Professor Abdul Ghani Butt, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza and Javed Ahmad Mir said that Sheikh Abdul Aziz’s sacrifices for the liberation of Kashmir were unforgettable. They said that the Kashmir dispute was not a border or communal issue but a political dispute, whose amicable settlement could guarantee peace in the South Asian region. The speakers said that Hindu extremist political parties and secret agencies had been wreaking havoc on the Muslims in Jammu for petty political gains in the upcoming elections. The leaders felicitated government and the people of Pakistan on the eve of their Independence Day, tomorrow. On the other hand, India’s Independence Day will be observed as Black Day with complete shutdown on Thursday to seek world’s attention for Kashmir settlement and also to press for immediate disbanding of the infamous so-called Village Defence Committees. Meanwhile, the authorities continued to impose curfew restrictions in eight districts of Jammu region for the fifth consecutive day, today. The troops of Indian army and paramilitary forces remained deployed in curfew-bound Kishtwar, Rajouri, Jammu, Kathua, Samba, Reasi, Udhampur and Doda districts. Hundreds of people including women and children defied curfew in Kishtwar town and protested against the arrestof youth in Kishtwar areas. Over a dozen people were injured in police actions. The authorities continued to place Veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman, Mohammad Yasin Malik, APHC leader, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Nayeem Ahmad Khan and Zafar Akbar Butt under house arrest, today. An Indian trooper shot himself dead with his service rifle at Shah Lakh post in Nowshera area of Rajouri district.
