God Blessed me 27 years ago today as I was escorted down the steps of the Longfellow House and Gardens by my wonderful friend Gene Sward to meet the man of my dreams, my knight in choker whites to become Chief Petty Officer and Mrs. Denton L Doze. It was everything every little girl dreams of for a wedding. Denny was honored by the Merrymen (chiefs mess companions and William) with swords held high and I was led to the ceremony by my precious daughters and lovely Matron of Honor, Patricia Troulliet. My sisters, Patricia and Pauline and brother (in law) Talmadge along with my wonderful brother, Toxey and his wife, Freddye Tomlin Walley were there to share our joy and give loving support. My wonderful, precious, beautiful Mama was radiant that day. Aunt Gustava and many of our family members shared our joyful day. Dennys Daddy came so far and his sweet Mama flew in to help me and they both welcomed me with open arms. I remember them all like it was yesterday. Our USS Mobile Bay (CG 53) family stood by and welcomed me into the chiefs mess Although it was 4th of July weekend, it was temps like today with a soft Gulf Breeze and a beautiful sunny sky. The first song that Peter Christian played for us was This Dreams on Me (Gene Watson). I picked that song because for me, my sailor, my love, my knight was allowing me to live a dream. The evening was spent aboard Polly and Talmadges sailboat with absolutely stunning views of the coastline. The years that have followed that dream -come -true day have been filled with the usual ups and downs of married life and some horrors that we could never have imagined with some great things that were added to the dream. But no matter what life brought the one thing that has remained is our Love for each other, our children and now our grand and great-grand children. God has truly Blessed us and as we continue this journey I know that our love will only grow stronger.
