God works in mysterious ways. Leaving Grandmas house I stopped by Popeyes. Dont laugh but I had a craving for a biscuit. Okay, two. And my car wouldnt start. Called mom to help me jump it - wouldnt work. Dang, do I need a new battery? ohhhh HECK NO! That was NOT part of the budget plan, lol. Random elder latino man passer by RANDOMLY walks up to jumper cables and begins fiddling with jumper cables. I start to object, but mom tells me to chill. (You know I be READY, lol. I realize this is probably a fault of mine. I DO need to calm down and take a chill pill sometimes. But you cant trust everybody). So we watch, curiosity piqued. He humbly tells us maybe the battery needs to be cleaned? But he doesnt know, because he only knows the basics. Hell go get his friend who lives around the corner, hes a mechanic and hell know. 15 minutes later an elder Black man, speaking Spanish, proceeds to take his look. De Donde eres? I ask. (Yes! Those junior high Spanish classes worked!) Puerto Rico he responds. Interesante. 10 minutes later, he says, you know what, I need to get my cousin, hes better than me. So, 20 minutes later, his cousin shows up on a bike. He begins to tamper. And pick. And look. And tap this. And tap that. Checks the fuses. Checks the alternator. Aha! He says. He fiddles with one last thing before it starts, suddenly, as though life had just been breathed into it by God. The Solenoid he says. What is a cellinoid? I think to myself. Look over to mom. Shes equally as puzzled. A piece of the cellenoid had come off, and needed to be re-connected. Randomly. This non-startage could JUST as easily have happened in the Inland Empire, had I taken the trip Id wanted to take Charnnai Tekle, because apparently it had been unattached or disconnected or off for some time now. And then I would have been stuck. And very, very upset. Thankful that in a world of sheisters and con artists looking to get over, there are still people who will look out. And that now have a local mechanic in my contacts. Oh, and that I didnt even up having to get another battery. (Knocking on wood as we speak) Ill still go re-charge my battery at Auto Zone in the morning, and perhaps get a diagnostic done for peace of mine and make sure everything is kosher. But as of the moment, the car started up great the 4 consecutive times I stopped then started it again, after arriving back home.
