Godavari swells following good inflows. With the heavy rains in the catchment areas upstream, Godavari river is receiving good inflows at the Dowleswaram barrage here. Officials released 3.84 lakh cusecs water from Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage at Dowleswaram into the Bay of Bengal on Thursday. The maximum water level at the barrage was 13.1 feet and the present level was 8 feet. The inflows may further increase by Friday morning. All the 175 gates in the four arms of the barrage at Dowleswaram, Bobbarlanka, Maddur and Vijjeswaram were opened to a height of one metre to discharge the flood water. The level increased due to heavy inflows from Penganga and Pranahita rivers but there was no major dicharge from Maharashtra. Around 12,000 cusecs were released from Kadem reservoir. There was no increase in the water level in the Sriram Sagar reservoir. The first warning will be given if the water level reaches 11.75 ft, second warning at 13.75 ft and the third warning if the water reaches 17.75 ft at the pond. Necessary staff were posted at all the four arms of the barrage to open the barrage gates if necessary.
