Godzilla 2014 Review! No Spoilers! Gareth Edwards writer & director of Monsters tries to capture the feel and essence of the original Godzilla but fails in the long run. Bryan Cranston as Joe Brody is the only character pulling this movie together but sadly is not in the movie that much. The film actually stars Aaron Johnson as Ford, the son of Joe. Johnson is an actor I like but here he gives a stiff performance. He is a soldier returning home to his wife & son. His wife, Elle played by Elizabeth Olsen is not involved in the story much. Ken Watanabe usually is great in his roles but here as a scientist who knows about Godzilla is also very stiff and doesnt do anything worth a damn after he explains what Godzilla is after the 40 minute mark. The rest of the characters are just generic stock characters. Now the big question is how is Godzilla and how much ass does he kick? Sadly he doesnt do much ass kicking. He looks amazing and he gets to show off some cool moments but its too little too late. The new monsters known as the MUTOS are cool looking but whenever the monsters or Bryan Cranston are not on screen the film gets quickly boring. I dont want to give away too much but the way Edwards handles the action is stupid. Its like when someone has something you want and they are about to give it to you they take it away, slap you in the face and say you need to wait longer. Only 1 real good action scene but at the end. I left the theater feeling really let down because Edwards did not take advantage of the huge potential he had. To this day neither the 98 film or the 2014 film got Godzilla right.
