*Trigger Warning: FGM* Demand President Obamas administration conduct research into the numbers of girls and women affected by female genital mutilation in the United States, in order to change the mindset that this is something that happens only overseas, and to pave the way for an open discussion on the various cultural and religious pressures that cause the issue, with a view to finally ending this horrendous practice. (Although FGM is widely recognised as a human rights violation, banning the practice has not stopped it from occurring since a lot of complex factors and belief systems are involved, and many families simply fly their daughters out of the US to be cut.
