Going by the punishment meted out, one mute question arises as to why this case was handled by SFIO ( Serious Frauds Investigation Office). The sentence of 6 months, fine of ₹ 20,000 and a maximum of ₹ 10 lakhs looks like the offences were petty one. It should have been handled by a team headed by a junior constable. The guilty were directors of Public Limited Companies and by manipulating the financial results, have swindled the money belonged to the shareholders, i.e., Public. It tantamount to corruption by people holding public office and amassing assets disproportionate to their legitimate source of income. We have heard a judgement in less than 2 months ago of 4 years imprisonment (with 6 year ban on representing people) and a whopping ₹100 Cr. fine. For what? For amassing assets worth > ₹65 Cr disproportionate to known source of income. How much did Satyam directors cheat the Public? US$ 1.47 billion. Great Judicial system!!!
