Going out of town tomorrow so here is Fridays Devotional in advance. Scripture: Luke 20:41-44 How can they say that the Messiah is Davids son? Jesus is the one who asks the question in this passage, wondering aloud why people would say that the Messiah is Davids son when David calls the Messiah his Lord in Psalms. Because Luke goes to such lengths in Chapters 1 and 2 to establish Jesus as one of Davids descendants, the question seems especially peculiar. Preacher Fred Craddock wonders whether Jesus complaint is that being called Davids son is too restrictive- that even though he is indeed Davids son, he is also the Son of Man, the Savior, and Gods beloved, and goes by more names than can be recounted. During this Lent, you might reflect on the temptation to turn Jesus into an all conquering victor, a king like David, at the expense of his being a suffering servant as well. How might Jesus expand your view of who Jesus is? Expand the churchs vision of Jesus, O God,that we would serve him faithfully. ~Chip Hardwick~ Presbyterians Today-2014 Lenten Devotional
