Gold FM was sent some questions for Hauraki District Mayor John - TopicsExpress

Gold FM was sent some questions for Hauraki District Mayor John Tregidga. One related to the subsidence that occurred at Gladstone Road late last year, another was about a tunnel being created from the Art Market in Seddon Street to the Martha open pit mine and we also received a question about numbers using the Hauraki Rail Trail. Question 1: Newmont admitted they were responsible for the Gladstone Road subsidence last year. Why didn’t the council prosecute them? Apparently there is a six month period after council is aware of a breach like the Gladstone Road subsidence where they can make a decision to prosecute but nothing was done. How can residents trust council to ensure their properties are safe and not damaged if they don’t punish companies like Newmont for damage to ratepayers homes and property. And – why is it taking so long for the final report on the subsidence to be finished? Newmont offered to buy the houses and did but the council could have done more. It seems that the delay could have something to do with the 6 month period which has now passed. Is this the case? Question 2: Could you ask the Mayor if we would be able to tunnel through our backyard at the Artmarket and create a public viewing platform over the Pit ? This, we think, would be a fantastic attraction for Waihi. Question 3: Are there any more figures available on the Hauraki Rail trail, especially the Waihi to Waikino section since its opening? Click play and allow the audio to open to hear what the Mayor had to say.
