Gonna have to stage another New Years Eve house party to see out 2015. The alleged DJ at Swallowtail last night played Red Red Wine three times in the space of an hour (I did challenge him about this and he assured me his short-term memory was fine), YMCA, In The Navy, a Jive Bunny-type 60s montage, the Steps back catalogue and the strangest version of Buffalo Soldiers Ive ever heard. There were other remarkably bad choices. To compound these heinous crimes, he counted down to the New Year at 11.54pm (how hard can it be?) and decided that the first song those gathered would love to hear in 2015 (or was it very late 2014?) would be the Hokey Cokey. I really thought DJs like this were extinct, but they still live among us. Of course, we still managed to have fun and his choice of Michael Jackson tune - P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing) offered a little redemption. The sixth single to be taken from the seminal 1982 album Thriller, which reached No 11 in the UK charts, often gets overlooked. Had he played that three times, I might not have grumbled so much. Any way, happy New Year - reach for the sky in 2015 (now look what hes gone and done) xxx
