Good Advice Transferred and Edited: Advice for reading/watching things you KNOW you are not going to agree with, making a phone call you KNOW is going to be hard, or entering into a discussion that you KNOW there is going to be trouble... First: Ask yourself, Is this necessary? What is my goal in doing this and is it Christ honoring? Is my goal possible and is doing this truly achieving my goal? IF SO: 1) Make sure you are not angry, overly tired, or hungry first; 2) Before you step forward: Breathe (do not hold your breath); 3) Count to 10 and read/talk slowly in a neutral voice noting key nouns, verbs, modifiers, and transition clauses; 4) Count to 10 again; 5) Read/talk slower- Talk less; and 6) Pray throughout OR IF NOT: Don’t read the article/watch the show at all/Dont enter into the conversation at all. Obviously there’s a bit more involved, but you get the point. If you race into a situation with your adrenaline receptors on high, your reticular activator going full blast, and your flux capacitor in overdrive, you’re in trouble (especially since that last one is going to land you in the middle of a gunfight in 1885). So slow down. Step forward carefully, prayerfully, and productively. When necessary (or you KNOW are going to lose your religion)... walk away.
