Todays Fresh Manna (10.10.14) Encounters with Jesus - 5 (A New Series from the Gospel of Luke) ************************ Luk 4:39 And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose and ministered unto them. (Read Luke 4:38-41) Rebuke to Release for Service! ********************************** Lord Jesus had no house to live in. He stayed in the house of Peter in Capernaum by the sea of Galilee. I had been to that place some years ago, where the ruins of that house are still kept for tourists to see. Nearby there is a synagogue in ruins too, where the Lord used to preach every Sabbath while He was there. We notice in the narrative of Dr. Luke that the Lord moved from place to place and manifested His power and authority over all sorts of sicknesses and evil spirits. Whoever sought His help, He healed them all. When the people besought the Lord to heal Peters mother-in-law, the Lord did not pray or touch her, but rather rebuked the fever to leave her body. It appears strange as if the fever is like a person to hear the Lords command or order, as the evil spirits did. It is also possible that sometimes, sicknesses are caused by the evil spirits. And when the evil spirit is cast out the sick person gets healed of the disease. Though we are not told if it was caused by any evil spirit, yet the Lord Jesus rebuked the fever. This again shows the authority and power of the Lord Jesus over everything in our life. Immediately she was healed and got up to serve them. What a great privilege to serve the Lord! Many today receive healings, blessings and salvation and go away to enjoy their lives. They may ask for time and money and they receive them, yet they dont use them for God but to indulge in their sinful living. The Lords purpose in healing and blessing anybody is not to encourage them to live selfish and self-centered lives but to be available to Him and serve Him. The preachers/pastors also need to be blamed for not fulfilling their God-given responsibility in not following up the new believers and for not teaching them the Word of God properly to help them keep following the Master. Ask the Lord to rebuke your fever, whatever it may be, that is increasing the temperature of your body, mind or emotions. At times, people are short tempered, can flare up easily and quickly and they need this kind of rebuke to set them free from such heat! In the authority of the Name of the Lord Jesus, be bold to rebuke anything that is causing you to feel down, depressed or discouraged. Let that spirit of hindrance or bondage be rebuked to flee from you. And that you may become available to serve the Lord. Amen.
