Good Friday Morning.. Its hard to post good news today… after my friends health I shared with all of you yesterday weighs heaving on my heart. You almost feel guilty to celebrate a small victory. But again.. I promised to share the good and the bad.. My little victory --- my doctor says at this point I DO NOT need a transplant…doctors think the last round of chemo knocked out the stem cells carrying my leukemia….but theres no guarantee until we test again in 2 months. For now I continue what is called the consolidation plan-- about 30 days in the hospital and 12-15 out… for 2 more cycles. THEN we test again. If it shows up again.. THEN i go to transplant.. but for now we celebrate this little victory along the way. Ill take it. I needed something positive to happen. Let me explain the stem cell study test… I was patient #1 here at Johns Hopkins to begin looking at not just the bone marrow and if and how many leukemia cells are present but also the stem cells… which is the top of the food chain…thats where the Leukemia is made. Last round I agreed to enroll in the study to give my doctor a closer look at my disease and perhaps avoid a relapse by allowing him a glance into my stem cells. The first time he looked.. he found cancer present IN my stem cells and was worried. This time we tested again after yet another 30 day round here and it didnt show up!! Dr. Levis is happy with the results but wont put it to rest until he re-tests me once I complete 2 more rounds. ((Things change so much im hesitant to accept it until a 2nd round of tests are done.. ive learned to hold my applause so I dont get hurt or let down… its happened before here… but Cesar and I are so excited.! )) So today we celebrate! We celebrate progress… we celebrate life. The road ahead is still tough but the outlook is looking brighter… each round takes a toll on me and its so so tough. I cant imagine anything harder than this last round… but im ready to #ArmorUp and fight. As for my daily struggles… Im still battling a viral infection, breathing issues and high blood pressure…just the norm.. part of the day to day struggle of having no white blood cells to fight my infection. We are waiting for my counts to come up… once they do and they are at a safe level then I can go home to Gabriel!! I cant wait. Thank you for all your support.. letting me share with you the ups and downs. Its not to bore you but to inform with the hopes more people understand the cancer fight and perhaps more people get behind the fight! #ArmorUp my friends… we can do this. xoxo Loriana
