Good Friday morning! Big changes over the next 72-hours in your forecast. Today starts off mostly dry. There are a few snow showers to our west that could pass through north-central WV. Well see some sunshine this morning and afternoon. But clouds will be building throughout the day. Temperatures make it into the upper 30s today. Rain showers arrive overnight and throughout Saturday. Some freezing rain will be possible to mix into the rain showers. If you see it raining tomorrow, please check to make sure its not freezing to the ground on contact. That could create a dangerous circumstance for walking or driving. Freezing rain is possible Saturday morning across north-central West Virginia. We will see mixing throughout the mountains on Saturday as temperatures stay cooler. Afternoon highs warming close to 50. Well see a break in the rain showers mid afternoon on Saturday. The next line of storms moves through overnight Saturday into Sunday. At that time, temperatures will still be in the 40s and 50s. So this system begins as rain with mixing possible in the mountains. It will remain rain throughout Sunday as temperatures fall from the 50s all the way down to the 30s by night-time. Its important to remember that during frontal passage Saturday night into Sunday, it will be possible to have wind gusts strong enough to do damage and bring down trees or damage power lines causing power outages. This is more likely at higher elevations. Snow showers begin in the mountains Sunday evening. If snow showers are able to develop at lower elevations, it may not be until Monday morning as temperatures drop into the 20s. If temperatures are able to fall fast enough Sunday and we keep precipitation over us, we could see some light accumulation by late Sunday morning. Between 0.5 - 1.0 in the mountains. And a dusting along the I-79 corridor. Snow showers ending late Monday morning. Highs into the 30s for Monday and Tuesday. Were tracking a clipper that brings snow flurries Tuesday into Wednesday. I think we could see some upslope snow flurries on Thursday as well. Temperatures will be dropping significantly during this time frame. From the 30s Tuesday to the teens all Wednesday and single digits by Thursday morning. This is dangerously cold and reminiscent of arctic blasts we saw last winter. So prepare adequately. Have a great weekend! - Meteorologist Kristian Claus - WBOY 12 News
