Good Morning “DREAM CHASERS!’ Its another beautiful day in the island of Barbados. The wind is blowing, the sun is shining and nuff people have started to cook already. Let’s see what’s in the SUNDAY NEWS!! The “Sleeping Giant” is awake and ready to do battle with anyone who wants to topple his government. According Prime Minister of Barbados Freundel Stuart "I do not fight battles until I have to … nobody chooses any battleground for me or the way of battle, I choose them." He went on to defend his government’s decision to have tuition fees for all Bajans attending the UWI Cave Hill paid by the students themselves. He said no political party ever faced the current economic challenges and that free education was not intended to be forever. So why then Mr. Prime Minister you orally stated that the removal of free tertiary education would be a step backward? Were you dreaming when you said that or were you just trying to placate the masses? It is a betrayal to promise the people who voted that their children will continue to enjoy free tertiary education, then slap them in the face with tuition fees. It would appear that the Budget policies are an indication that this Administration intends to fully wipeout the middle-class and create societal division and dislocation. Well if that was the intention I’d say they are being very successful. The plot continues to thicken - TheBeckles Commission, which submitted a report to Government last year on reforming tertiary education, is distancing itself from Government’s recent announcement that from next year students attending the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus will be required to pay their own tuition fee. Principal of the Campus, Sir Hilary Beckles, who was the chairman of the commission, said members were livid, especially after hearing it said in Parliament last week that the recommendation had come out of the report. It was emphasized that the payment of tuition fees by students was not included in the recommendations which the panel submitted to Government. What has Chris Sinkler really gone and done now? Meanwhile; The Guild of Students at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Cave Hill Campus, will “do whatever it takes” to try to get Government to reverse its decision on Barbadians paying tuition fees from September 2014. President of UWI Cave Hill Student’s Guild Damani Parris stated that with marked drop-outs expected next year and the following year UWI as we know it may be dead in 3 years. There will be a rally tonight in Independence Square starting at 7:00 p.m.. All present and former University Students are being asked to rally in support of the cause. If memory serves me correctly the last time something of this magnitude occurred back in 2001 students were arrested along with Kenny Anthony’s wife Rosemarie Belle Antoine. Well the pensioners should still be happy since Michael Lashley has assured them they will still ride on public transport for free while the rest of us will face no increase in bus fares. Whoopiee!! Donville Inniss is telling Sir Allan Field to BRING SOME SOLUTIONS to the table and stop criticizing the government’s policies.Sir Allan said the budgetary measures proposed by Minister of Finance Christopher Sinckler last Tuesday were “very draconian” and would not pull Barbados out of economic trouble. While The Police are trying to keep crime down in Bridgetown by clearing out vendors from plying their trade on the streets. I think with the state of affairs in this country obviously they want crime to increase. How are you going to move the vendors from trying to make an honest living? Obviously you are now sending them to commit crime!! Leader of the Opposition Mia Mottley yesterday described the Royal Barbados Police Force’s Operation Recapture Bridgetown as offensive in name and antagonistic in its approach. The Barbados Olympic Association is aiming to get 6 medals at the next Olympics. They might as well aim for 1 or stop home and stop wasting money. The Barbados Tridents slumped to a third straight loss in the Caribbean Premier League yesterday, going down by six wickets to Jamaica Tallawahs at Sabina Park. Well that’s all for today. Remember you are too blessed to be stressed!! Have a great day
