Good Morning Facebook Friends, We realize that it isn’t always - TopicsExpress

Good Morning Facebook Friends, We realize that it isn’t always easy to find an appropriately licensed wildlife rehabber. Sometimes by the time people call us, they have called up to 15 people before us, none of whom were properly licensed for the species of animal they are calling about, which is why they had to make so many calls. Many of these other people will give well intentioned advice, because they truly do care and want to be helpful. But, too often, the advice they give is based on their own knowledge and, if they aren’t properly permitted, not knowledge of the species in question, and therefore not proper advice. Things we would do with mammals are often exactly the opposite of what we would do with a bird, for instance. As much as we know people want to help RIGHT NOW, most often, waiting to speak with an appropriately licensed/experienced person will be better for the animal in the long run. Please, if you need to call about wildlife in need, make sure that the advice you are following is given by a person who is permitted for the species of animal you are calling about. This really can mean the difference between life and death in many cases. Also, I must ask again, if you are giving our phone number to somebody with wildlife in need, PLEASE do not tell them to ask for me specifically. Anybody who answers our phone is quite capable of answering questions and determining the right course of action. Having people ask for me can often delay the care the animal needs. Have a beautiful day all!
