Good Morning Friends! Psalms 71:3 “Be Thou my strong - TopicsExpress

Good Morning Friends! Psalms 71:3 “Be Thou my strong habitation…” This request suggests that the Psalmist is on shaky ground and his life is possibly being threatened by an adversary. He realizes the strength of his enemy. David was a man of war and was not afraid of the battle. But the greatest man of valor needs a resort to which he can go for rest from the battle and a place that he can be at ease from the dread of surprise attacks. We see this in the words “Be Thou my strong habitation.” The word “strong” (tsuwr) means “cliff, or rock” i.e., a cave or a place in the rock that is hidden and impenetrable. It comes from a word that refers to boulders or formations of stone and material which composes mountains. It is like a cave cut out of a gigantic stone formation. You could get in this cave and be safe from the storm of an attacking enemy. The word “habitation” ( ma`own) means “a dwelling, a habitation, a lair, refuge (of jackals).” So it is not a triple A hotel that is being asked for, but a secret dwelling place, a place where one can live protected from the enemies and the elements. Satan is an enemy and he is on the prowl for unsuspecting Christians that he may devour. But if God is our “strong habitation,” he is helpless to do us harm. The only harm he can do is to make us afraid with his growl. Someone has said, “Fear is confidence in your enemy.” I have absolutely no confidence in my enemy. But sometimes God allows me to feel the enemy’s presence and sense the enemy’s strength so that I throw myself into my Father’s arms and His protection by faith totally apart from feeling.
