A bomb explosion that occurred this morning, at the busy Monday Market close to the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) building in Maiduguri, Borno State capital, has left at least 10 people dead with 27 others severely injured. The bomb exploded at about 8.20am within the market premises, which is usually crowded commercial centre. 1b. Umaru Dikko, a prominent northern politician and Minister of Transportation during the Second Republic, passes away today, July 1, according to his son, Dr. Bello Dikko. Mr. Umaru Dikko died early Tuesday in a London hospital at the age of 78, family revealed. According to the son, he has been sick for quite some time and suffered three strokes in a row. Umaru Dikko was born in 1936. He is a Nigerian politician and was a trusted adviser to President Shehu Shagari. He was also the Nigeria minister for Transportation from 1979-1983. 2. Security operatives in the Northeast have arrested a man identified as Babuji Ya’ari who is also a member of the Youth Vigilante Group popularly known as Civilian JTF. Report says having remained an active terrorist under the guise of Civilian JTF, Babuji allegedly spearheaded the murder of the Emir of Gwoza. Report further reveals that his main role in the group was to spy and gather information for the terrorists group. Other women involved in a similar act have been arrested by the security forces as well. 3. Men of Kwara State Police Command have uncovered some buildings along Lagos‑Ilorin expressway allegedly used as hideout for criminals selling human parts and involved in other nefarious criminal activities. According to the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Ambrose Aisabor, some of the items discovered in the six buildings of about 18 flats, allegedly owned by one socialite, include decomposed human parts,a decomposed headless body, decomposed human feet, snail shells, piece of cloth suspected to be used in strangulating victims, under-wears, NYSC caps, shoes, eye glasses, handset cover, sandals, among other personal belongings. 4. Niger Delta ex-militant leaders on Monday issued a warning to northern leaders over the 2015 re-election bid of President Goodluck Jonathan. The repented militants, who gathered in Oron, Akwa Ibom State, under the aegis of the Leadership, Peace and Cultural Development Initiative, said they would cut off the supply of petroleum products to Northern Nigeria, adding that they would also make sure that the north would not benefit from the crude oil proceeds generated from the Niger Delta region. 4b. Adamawa state Governor, Murtala Nyako has accused members of the PDP in the State Assembly of simply carrying out the order of their leaders from Abuja in their move to impeach him. Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Governor, Mr. Ahmed Sajoh, while speaking on behalf of the Governor on Monday said that the resolution reached by the PDP stakeholders was an indication that they were propelled by ulterior motives against the wish of the people. 5. The FCT Minister, Senator Bala Mohammed has ordered all hotels in Abuja to henceforth forward all lists of guests in their respective hotels to the FCT Directorate of Department of State Services, DSS, and the FCT Police Command everyday. This according to the Minister would become an extra security measure against terrorist attack in the nation’s capital. 6. Prof. Michael Umale Adikwu, a Professor of Pharmacy from Benue state and a lecturer at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, has been appointed as the new Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja, replacing Professor James Adelabu, whose tenure expired yesterday, June 30. 7. The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) on Monday declared that it will today (Tuesday) embark on an indefinite strike over government’s failure to meet its demands of several months. The President of the NMA, Dr. Kayode Obembe, during a press briefing on the failure of the Federal Government to address their demands and imperative of the strike, said there was no going back in the Association’s decision. 8. Suspects arrested over the murder of Funso Williams were yesterday freed by a Lagos High Court as a result of no case submission. The case which was presided by Justice Ebenezer Adebajo, Monday discharged and acquitted six suspected killers of a former Lagos State People’s Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial aspirant. In his ruling on a no-case submission filed by the defence, Justice Adebajo held that the prosecution has failed to establish a prima facie case against any of the accused persons. 9. The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, on Monday in Abuja said that the activities of the Boko Haram Islamic should not be seen as war by Muslims against Christians or the Federal Government. The Secretary-General of NSCIA, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede made the statement at the plenary while responding to a goodwill message expressed by the Christian delegates to Muslims in commemoration of the Ramadan season. 10. President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday said his administration would continue to tackle insecurity across the country. The President, while speaking through the Vice President, Namadi Sambo, at the opening of the 16th meeting of the Baroness Lynda Chalkerled Honorary International Investor Council, at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja. said the Federal Government would continue to work towards a secured Nigeria.
