Good Morning… Here is your Wednesday Widget of Wisdom for January 7, 2015. I hope you enjoy it. “When you die, it does not mean that you lose to cancer---You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, and in the manner in which you live.”---Stuart Scott Last Sunday, the sports world, no, make that the entire world lost a prized possession. After a 7 year battle with cancer, Stuart Scott VICTORIOUSLY left our world and is now resting in eternal peace. It’s no secret what Mr. Scott did to the sports broadcasting world. His swagger and his unique way of reporting on the daily sporting events was head and shoulders above anyone else in his profession. Catch phrases like “Cool as the other side of the pillow” and “BOO-YAW” became part of our daily lexicon. His brightest moment however came in July of 2014 when at the ESPYs, ESPN honored Mr. Scott with the Jimmy V award. Stuart Scott rose from his seat in the audience and strode proudly to the microphone, bearing “battle scars” of a 7 year bout with a disease that would eventually claim his life. He then gave an eloquent 14 minute speech centered around the quote that I used for today’s widget. Stuart Scott REFUSED to acknowledge that cancer defeated him. He made sure that even though he was inflicted with this terrible disease, he was going to take it on using his terms and no one else’s. Over and over those words, “how you live, why you live and the manner in which you live” echoed in my brain. So my question for you today is: If this magnificent man can possess a view of life like this during a 7 year struggle with cancer, then why can’t we? Now, more than ever is a time to reflect on OURSELVES and evaluate “how” we live, “why” we live, and “the manner” in which we live. Once you have made that self-evaluation, then take whatever steps necessary to improve upon the areas of your professional or private lives that need attention. One of my favorite “Stuart Scottisms” was “DON’T HATE THE PLAYER, HATE THE GAME!!!” Well Mr. Scott, we loved you as a player and with you gone, the game will never be the same again. Rest in Peace!!!
