Good Morning Hockeytown! Top Headlines: *Even the Wings Themselves are Baffled by Recent OT Loss Streak *Smith Looks Good for Tuesday Return, Alfredsson Likely Out at Least a Week *Nationally Broadcast Game Today *Everyone in Hockeytown Confounded by OT Losses, Even the Wings... The Wings are currently riding a five game OT losing streak, the last three in the shoot out. To say that nearly everyone is scratching their heads over this would be an understatement. Even the Wings are struggling to find a reason. Here are recent comments some of the Wings made, as reported by mlive: Johan Franzen had this analysis: Theres an explanation for it. We dont score enough in the shootout. If we score more, wed win more. Its tough. Its tough on the guy shooting. Were depending on them. Theres a big mark on their back. When its going like that for a while, its tough to get the confidence you need to beat the goalie. Its not easy to score on a breakaway like that. We just need to win one in regulation. We play good enough to do it. Keep doing what were doing and get a win in regulation and well start to feel better about ourselves. Darren Hem had this to say: I hope thats not the case. Were playing well to get to that position. We havent been good enough in OT. I think weve been pretty good in first, second and third period. We have to find ways to score in OT and shootouts, which is tough. Youre not going to win if you cant do that. Glass half empty, glass half full. You gotta look at the positives. Take the positives. Everybody knows how it feels to lose. Its not a good feeling. We got to turn it around here. But those points could help us in the end. Henrik Zetterberg said this: Overall I think its a good point. Were right there to get two points. We want to get that second one. I dont know if we need to start working on the shootout more or what. It comes down to confidence. It is tough. We cant find a way to win the game. But I think we battled hard tonight. Back-to-back games, we find a way to come back in the game. Coach Babcock commented thusly: Its like anything in life; its gets in your head a little bit.To me, we got to be hard-headed. We got to be mentally tough and bring it to the table. The standings could be a lot different for us if we won all those games, especially in the shootout. Its just a skills competition at the end of a game. *Brendan Smith Likely Good for Tuesday, Alfredsson Could be out at Least a Week Brendan Smith has been out of the line up since he sustained a separated shoulder during a fight with Will Acton in the final minutes of the Novembre 2nd game in Edmonton. According to reports Smith has been pain free and is likely to return to the line up on Tuesday. Here are some comments he had on the situation on Saturday, as reported by the freep: “I think I’m pretty much ready here. But I just think it’s a precaution. I was hoping for Friday. It didn’t work out. I was hoping for today, and it didn’t work out. I guess I’m doing the same thing for Tuesday. But I feel good. I’m not feeling any pain or anything, so that’s an upside. “That’s even more frustrating than just sitting and not playing.Obviously, we’re a playoff team. We’re a great team, and not being able to pull out these wins makes it even more frustrating for myself. ... Obviously, I want to be a part of the team and help it out.” Daniel Alfredsson was a surprise game time scratch last Friday due to a sore groin. He was evaluated on Saturday and reports say that he will likely miss Tuesdays game against the Predators. It is not confirmed at this point but it is beleived that he could be out for at least a week. Alfredsson said this about the concern to the freep: “I felt pretty good. Practice the other day was fine, and then warming up before the game I felt where I was, that if I go out and play, it will jeopardize it further.” *Todays Nationally Broadcast Game: ~Ducks @ Penguins, 7:30pm et on TSN2 in Canada and NBCSports in the US Information from mlive and freep was used in compiling this post.
