Good Morning. In Mark 7:20 Jesus reminds us that we are not - TopicsExpress

Good Morning. In Mark 7:20 Jesus reminds us that we are not defiled by what comes out of us. Defilement originates from within the heart of mankind. “And he said, that which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man.” The Strong’s Concordance defines the original Greek word for “defiled” as “1. to make (Levitically) unclean, render unhallowed, defile, profane; and 2. to declare or count unclean.” The Bible reminds us in Matt. 12:34 that “…for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.” So when it comes unto defilement, we need to pay closer attention to our thoughts and what is going on in our minds. This is the seat of the issues that we face. What we see on the outside are mere indicators of what is going on in our minds. Matthew Henry in his commentary on this text said, “It is that which comes out from the heart, the corrupt heart, that defiles us. As by the ceremonial law, whatsoever (almost) comes out of a man, defiles him (Lev. 15:2; Deu. 23:13), so what comes out from the mind of a man is that which defiles him before God.” In order for us to ensure that there is no defilement in our heart we must ask God to change our heart and remove every single thing that will cause us to harbour evil thoughts. I pray that we will continue to surrender every area of our lives to the total control of the Holy Spirit so that we can receive the transformation required to remove the uncleanness that exists within our hearts.
