Good Morning friends! Today we start theme of duets composed by O.P. Nayyar since his birth & death anniversary falls in January. Some of tidbits I gathered over years in books, net etc. Omkar Prasad Nayyar aka OP was an enigma for common people,an immensly talented egoist, IMHO he was artist in true sense who never compromised in what he believed, living life to fullest! Noted film producer, director and actor Guru Dutt had faith in him even after series of flops & gave him an opportunity to write, compose and conduct music and songs for Aar Paar (Guru Dutt gave records of Bing Crosby to OP to tell him the kind of music he wanted) and rest is history. OP did not have any formal training music though he composed all songs of Phagun in Piloo. Sebastian who was his assistant, was band master in Strand hotel in Lahore, when he was a non-entity OP used to tell him in jest that Sabby you will be my assistant one day, which turned out to be prophetic! He always thought that his creativity is gift of divine! He had great respect for Anna & SJ as composers and was deeply influenced by K L Saigal in young age hence O.P. Nayyar! He lived last few years of life with Nakhwa family in Virar after bitter fights with family. He had learnt Homeopathy from Dr Phatak & used to practice it free of cost for needy.
