Good Morning from KTJS News Fender skirts, tail fins and hot rods will mix with home grown vegetables and lots of miscellaneous for sale. Mangum will be hopping tomorrow for its 36th annual car show. But there’s also a farmers market and town wide garage sale going on. Mangum Chamber Of Commerce Manager David Zachery and Karen Locklear will be on KTJS News today promoting the events and their community. A grand opening and ribbon cutting will be held today for a new upscale restaurant in Sayre. The ceremony coordinated by the Sayre Chamber of Commerce will honor the “Iron Post” restaurant at 309 west main. Opening the business are Angie Walker and Bud Anderson. They say the restaurant will feature Angus Beef steaks cooked to order and specialties such as hot asiago cheese and shrimp, grilled salmon salad and chicken artichoke pasta. They will offer a full breakfast and daily lunch specials. The Iron Post will be open Monday thru Saturday from 5am till 9pm. It also offers space for banquets and private parties. Three Generations of the Gray family in Altus are lifetime members of the Western Oklahoma State College Alumni Association. Karyl Gray bough herself a membership and gave others as gifts. She says it’s a good way to pay back the college for everything it has given the family. The tradition continues with Matthew martin, another family member who is a current student at WOSC and a member of the college baseball team. The Oklahoma Department of Commerce has announced 147 new jobs will be created by two companies which are enrolled in the state’s “Quality Jobs” program. The companies are Excellence Engineering which does design and engineering for oil field companies and Computer RX which provides pharmacy management software. Quality Jobs supplements payroll expenses for companies which locate or expand in Oklahoma. They have been in operation since 1993. The Department of Commerce also helps rejuvenate small downtown areas thru its Main Street program such as the program in Hobart. Russ Weaver, co host of the “Cowboy Church” program on the RFD TV network will speak at the Red River Cowboy Church in Mangum. It will be Sunday September 17th beginning with a free dinner at the church at 1001 Byers Street in Mangum. Weavers television program reaches one hundred to one hundred and fifty thousand homes a week. Great Plains Youth and Family Services in Hobart has started its “fill the bus for A-Plus” program. It encourages folks to donate school supplies, money, or gift cards to buy the supplies. Things needed by the kids include backpacks, paper, pens, pencils, crayons, and glue. School lists can be found at area merchants. The donations are accepted inside the Youth and Family Services Office at 901 South Broadway in Hobart weekdays during business hours. The “Live” coalition is encouraging youth in Caddo and Kiowa Counties to participate in upcoming physical activities to help them get moving at least thirty minutes a day to promote good health habits. The series started July 5th with a hike at Great Plains State Park. This Saturday, August 2nd, the series will continue in Caddo County with a 5K and a 1K walk sponsored by the Consortium against substance abuse in Anadarko.
