Good Morning misiwaa waan indaa eeyou/eenou istchee! Today we begin a new series on Cree Radio CBC. Some of you may have had the chance to visit the Aanischaaukamikw Cree Cultural Institute in Ouje-Bougoumou... but for those who have not, were going to bring some of their most prized artifacts to you, on the radio. Gaston Cooper will guide us through .... Earlier this week the Abitibi-Témiscamingue health agency recommended that people NOT eat moose organs. Last fall along with the provincial wildlife department, they collected 24 moose kidneys and measured the cadmium levels. The Abitibi health agency called the cadmiun levels worrying. The Cree Health Board has also studied cadmium and the traditional diet in Eeyou Istchee. Their recommendation: go ahead and eat traditional food! To explain more, we will hear from Reggie Tomatuk. Last week, you may have heard Laurie Longchap from Mistissini expressing her feelings when she saw her husband getting dialysis treatment in her home town. The fight to bring dialysis services to Cree communities goes back at least 15 years. Back then Jimmy Gunner from Mistissini decided to raise awareness about the need for dialysis treatment in the Cree communities. He decided to walk from Whapmagoostui to Mistissini. and everyone supported it. Join Betsy and Lindsay this morning for plenty more on Winschgaoug! :)
