Good Question Mr. Hyer - I would also like to know why we keep electing the same people and parties again and again and again? Bruce Hyer, a Green Party MP from Ontario, had laid the blame for the high prevalence of cancer cases on the Island’s potato production. He said the Island is growing too many potatoes and would do well to shift to crops that are more value-added. Hyer concluded his presentation with five questions for the audience to consider: Why do you accept the risk of pesticides? Why do you accept the fact that you have a higher rate of cancer in P.E.I. – much of it likely due to pesticide exposure – and nothing’s happening? Why don’t you diversify your agricultural base – less potatoes and more high-value crops – and move towards fewer and fewer pesticides and foster some of your organic farms? Why do you let large corporations run your province and your lives? And why do you keep electing the same people and parties again and again and again?
