Good Sunday and welcome to the final day of June. We’re putting - TopicsExpress

Good Sunday and welcome to the final day of June. We’re putting the wraps on a soggy month across the bluegrass state and that trend shows no signs of letting up. While I have dubbed this the “summer of storms”… the pattern needs a name. Since I am a kid at heart… let’s go with “Super Soaker. That’s the original super soaker and it never seemed to run out of water. The same can be said with this pattern as rounds of showers and thunderstorms are loaded in the tank just waiting to drench their intended target. That target last night was the Kentucky Speedway. The NASCAR folks may have a few issues again today.Showers and storms today will work in from the northwest to southeast and a few could be strong with heavy rainfall. The flow will change a bit as we roll into Monday and that means more in the way of southern moisture being pulled into the region. That’s when the storms may be a little stronger and put down even more heavy rainfall. This pattern looks to hang tough all week long with temps in the upper 70s and low 80s for highs. The GFS 2 week rainfall forecast continues to ramp up totals…That’s more than 5″ of rain for much of the state during this time. While that is only to be used for Guidance… it’s easy to see we have a continuation of the super soaker pattern. This continues to have the look of a setup that ends up producing a decent summertime flash flood event. What about the heat or lack thereof? The Day 10 European Model shows the heat ridge staying out west with another deep trough across eastern North America…Have a great Sunday and take care.
