Good TGIF evening! The weekend is here :) :) :) Area of low pressure will move northeast across the MS/AL coast going into Sunday. Rain chances will increase. The better rain chance will be along the MS coast and into Florida. There is the potential for some locally heavy rain. The low moves northeast out of the area by Monday, and rain chances will go down to 20%. Skies clear for Tuesday and Wednesday with highs in the mid 80s. In fact on this day back in 1998, we had four concurrent hurricanes churning over Atlantic waters. But today in the Atlantic there are no hurricanes, no named storms, no depressions, no invests, no areas to watch. So what gives? A brutal wind pattern, with lots of red painted across Gulf, Caribbean, and Atlantic waters indicating well above average wind shear (changing winds with height that stifle thunderstorm growth). On top of this there continues to be an abundance of sinking air (atmospheric stability) in the Atlantic, especially in the far eastern Atlantic where the wind shear is less hostile. The sinking air is helping to snuff out thunderstorm clusters as they roll westward through the Atlantic. Sure enough, today Invest 96-L met the same fate as many of its aspiring predecessors. The area of low pressure in the central Atlantic has been shredded by the unfavorable wind pattern and abundance of dry, sinking air, leading NHC to remove the disturbance from its 5-day outlook.
