Good Thursday morning and Happy New Year, 2015! Can you believe - TopicsExpress

Good Thursday morning and Happy New Year, 2015! Can you believe its already 2015? Well, along with the new year, winter is here too. Were going to start noticing it by the weekend. Lets first take a look at today and tomorrow. Pretty similar days. Chilly mornings in the 20s and cool afternoons in the 30s. Mostly clear skies until clouds begin building in Friday ahead of the front and weekend weather activity. A nice warm-up for us by Saturday. Theres still a lot of variability in the timing and results of the weather heading our way this weekend. Lets talk about what we do know so far. Overnight Friday, clouds begin building. We could even see precipitation beginning to arrive as rain showers. There could be mixing occurring in the mountains as sleet, snow, rain or even freezing rain. The timing for that mixing is pretty wide-ranging as well. It could occur in the morning. And it could occur in the evening. Thats all out ahead of the cold front which is set to move through and bring along with it a line of moderate showers that could have dangerous wind gusts, especially at higher elevations. In terms of wind strength, we could see a repeat of the Christmas Day storms wind. Rain will be heaviest during the overnight hours into Sunday morning during frontal passage. Temperatures stay in the 40s during that event as well. Then, temperatures begin to quickly drop behind the front Sunday morning. Rain showers begin to change over to snow flurries as temperatures fall. Were even picking up the hint of some light accumulation in the mountains. A dusting could be possible. Its still a little too early to call that one. But it is a possibility were looking at. Things cool down, clear out and calm down for us on Monday. Dry with highs only in the 30s. Similar weather ahead. Cold next week on Tuesday through Thursday. Highs in the 20s and 30s. Lows in the 20s and teens. And we keep a chance of snow flurries in the forecast for each of those days. Not currently expecting any accumulation from that. Still too far out too call that one too. Thats the latest on your forecast! Have a safe, happy and healthy new year. - Meteorologist Kristian Claus - WBOY 12 News
