Good afternoon Raiders! I decided to go back to my roots today and in doing so, I made a discovery. Our beloved Council #6 Magnolia (the name being changed many years ago) will stand no more. As I took the pictures (attached to this posting) I remembered the days gone by. The gym where many pep rallies were held, Mr. Chapman trying his best to make us have the sound of music, the Womanless Wedding, dances, basketball games and Lord only knows what else. Buildings gone that taught me a thing or two of this life I live today. Who knew I would have a printing company and three newspapers dealing with figures, and measurements…. certainly not Ms. Crook. She tried her best to beat the math into my head. Well, Ms Crook, believe it or not, it did stick. I remember the trouble Billy Clark and I use to get into in History class, which usually sent us out the door to sit or to the Principals office or even a swat with the paddle (that my daddy made). My name was on that paddle more times then I care to remember. A lonely chair sits at that door now for only a few more days. I remember walking down those sidewalks full of students going in all directions. Those sidewalks are now only crumbles of concrete and dirt. No awnings, no benches, nothing of what use to be. When this school was built in the summer of ’71, nothing but saplings surrounded the area. Now they have grown into mighty Pines, Oaks and Magnolias. The Magnolia tree that was out front still stands today with the greenest of leaves that glistened in the sun. As I swung my camera around, I caught a glimpse of a tiny red rose peaking out from behind a bush beside an empty bench. I stood staring at that rose for a while thinking, what secrets had been shared on that bench? Who had sat on that bench? How many kisses had been stolen on that bench? Now only that bench knows, and it’s not telling! Days are gone of learning, laughter and the bonds of friendship. We have all grown and gone in different directions, yet our roots remain at Magnolia. Just this writers views!
