Good afternoon all. Thanks for accepting me into the group Steve Sanderson. I own a 1995 2.8 WB that needs an Engine after a cowboy mechanic destroyed the engine block because he did not lock it at TDC when he changed the head gasket (that didin´t need replacing . I live in the Island of Madeira ,Portugal and the 2 engines i found here are expensive and to be honest, are in worse condition than mine so to speak. 2.8l Frontera´s are not that common here, or even in main land Portugal and from what i´m finding not many engines available in the UK either :( As with most people, money is very tight as i don´t have a job so can´t afford the prices of the engines that i do find. My question is: Is it advisable to recondition the engine with new pistons (will need piston rings as well right?)after reboring the engine block? If so, will i have to rebore all cylinders or just the 2 affected? I am thinking that if i have to pay close to €900.00 for a used engine i may as well spend the money on new parts and the engine will be good as new. Your advice will be much appreciated on this matter as i´ve asked some other mechanics around and none of them think it´s a good idea. Please help :/
