Good article that Dr. Joel Kahn sent me. Totally supports my clinical recommendations on no calorie sweeteners: Use them as an initial bridge if necessary to reduce sugar intake and then slowly wean from them over the months/years, when your willpower is ready to do so without discombobulating all of your other achievements. But (sorry purists) they are not on the list of healthy weight loss seekers first priorities list...which are to carefully manage: 1. energy (aka fat promoting) calories - i.e. excess/non-essential carbs AND fats - with essential being defined not only physiologically, but also psychologically 2. while maintaining healthy protein and fiber intake ... and if we are to go beyond weight-loss for health the next priorities would not be artificial sweeteners – they would next then be: 3. salt/sodium control and awareness 4. saturated fat control and awareness Once youve gotten these 4 critical RMS lifestyle priorities under reasonable control and feel you are ready, you can then start to prioritize things like reducing no calorie sweeteners, going organic, and other healthful, if not highest priority, factors. That is where I clinically, and personally, feel REALITY MEETS SCIENCE tm
