~Le Fruit de la Grisaia~ Disclaimer: The gender ratio of the anime (1man:5+women) might definitely make someone think of this as your typical harem anime... But personally, I DONT classify this as one. First impressions? Definitely worth the watch. The cinematic approach of portraying the scenes from the visual novel was absolutely perfect. The anime character designs were a bit off and different from the actual game designs but nonetheless, 8-bit did an awesome capture of the motions and angles. The screenplay for the first episode is not that rushed unbelievably. Character portrayals? Oh I can see it! (screenshots related) I havent played all routes yet of the game since I just managed to finish one (Makina, my beloved 2D daughter). That ominous last two minutes of the first episode really made a mark to watch out for future happenings. IF YOU ARE ATTRACTED TO CHARACTERS WITH BG STORIES FULL OF TRAUMA, GUILT, DESPAIR, ETC INFLUENCING A PRESENT CHANGE IN PERSONALITY AND A TICKING MENTAL BREAKDOWN AURA, this anime is for you. First off was Sachi, the good ol school rep/all around maid. Shes my second favorite by the way. Then, we got introduced to the almost sisters duo, Makina (my love) and Amane. This was then followed up by the fake tsundere, Michiru-SAMA. And finally, the period of the group, Sakaki Yumiko (which strongly reminds me of Hitagi from Bakemonogatari with that cold attitude and cutter swinging~) And dont forget the outstanding MC, Kazami Yuuji (Yuu-kun tehepero~) A pretty opaque background for a MC and unlike the typical male lead, he doesnt show off with a variety of expressions. His cold stares and business smiles are enough. Overall rating: 8.5/10 This is really something worth watching for the plot. Music doesnt stand out that much since they havent shown us yet the OP and ED sequences (just handful credits OmO) but the insert tones (mostly taken out from the game) were familiar and nostalgic. Characters are appealing and surely not boring. Designs were okay but the landscape and CGs were above average. Trivia: The word grisaia is likely to be a corruption of the French term used in art to describe grisaille, a method of painting in monochrome or near-monochrome, typically to resemble the appearance of marble sculptures. So literally its meant to mean grayness. The fruits refer to guilt the heroines bear, as described by the story synopsis of the game. Each heroine is represented by a fruit: Yumiko = grape (why my fave fruit but not my fave chara) Suou = cherry (so-so) Michiru = lemon (yeah, she loves her vitamin C 1000% concentrated) Irisu = strawberry (hihihi
