Good day in Florence--just a mere 1 and 1/2 hour bus trip from the port. Beautiful but hot and sunny again. There seems to be a lot of events going on in the summer (yesterday setting up for a huge Harley Davidson rally for the Pope in Rome, today the continuation of some football tournament that took up the whole square where we were dropped off). Anyways, we were on our own and ended up at the same leather and gold store that I was at the last time I was here--really just to use the bathroom. Walked around for a bit--visited Pitti Palace across the river from the main town. It s now a museum with a humongous garden behind it and up a hill (sweaty girl again). then a quick look at the Duomo. Had an excellent super dark chocolate and coffee gelato then spaghetti for lunch. this time the bus did not break down :-) dinner was grilled meats-ribs, chicken, kabobs,other skewered things, lamb and a whole roasted piglet (Yummy skin!), gyros, etc, then assorted mediterranean sides and desserts. Buffets are EVIL--I have gained some weight because I cannot fit into a pair of pants that I brought (that fit before the cruise). OK, so gelato and dessert for dinner definitely is NOT my normal diet but they sure are good. Monte Carlo, Monaco tomorrow--just going to walk around town and not do shore excursions.
