AHC

Good evening: I have been unable to post on this page, because I lost all services including but not limited to internet thanks to Post-Tropical Storm Arthur. You may have seen the abrupt change in the cover image yesterday, and here is an explanation to that. I have suspended the Atlantic Hurricane Center until further notice or permanently. And I will now tell you as to why. The Atlantic Hurricane Center was designed to provide an alternative, to the agencies providing coverage for tropical systems. Initially AHC was supposed to be a volunteer service (which it still is), but had future hopes it could turn into something much much more than that. I can not continue to volunteer my free time to update this service to you. I spend more of my free time during cyclone times, than I do with other things in life. I also can not be the sole person operating this page, and have been mainly the sole operator of this page, since the move to facebook back in 2010. I have had admins on this page before, and have done little to nothing with AHC. The majority of previous admins capture images from other websites (against AHC policy), rather than forecasting by AHC standards. I had to give up the Maritime Weather Center page, which was a spin off to this page. Sadly that page has gone in a direction that, that page was not intended to do. And despite people asking me to re-take over that page, I highly think that would happen. I wont hand over this page to anyone, after seeing whats happening to my former page. I have asked for Weather Specialists/Meteorologists to join the AHC team, and I got nothing back. Its also very irritating to see when I post a track of a cyclone, I see images from the CHC and NHC, posted on the AHC timeline. Well AHC does not use NHC/CHC images, nor are we intended to use their forecasts. Its not hard to assume that I (Brian) dont already know what the CHC/NHC forecasts, I have access to that information. I personally am not a Weather Enthusiast, I am a Weather Specialist ( a person who does almost everything a Meteorologist does, without having formal training to be called a Meteorologist ). Its great to see some wishing to moderate the comments, well thats great in all but AHC is not just about the comments. I personally need some sort of sleep, but who forecasts while I sleep? No one, thats who. I wanted to shut down the page before, and to many great comments to keep it up. But those people who comment to keep it up, are not the ones who actually forecast on AHC and know how demanding this page really is at times. I dont see AHC returning at all, if past years are any indication. Furthermore, in the Canadian Maritimes there are weather pages that post tropical information from the CHC/NHC. and the people behind those pages are just weather enthusiasts. They dont have the knowledge that I have, but yet sure act like they do. Also with the large area AHC covers from Western Africa, to the Atlantic Coast of North American and everything in between. We only have 17K+ likes, while that seems like a lot its really not by population comparison. I checked the numbers and 90% who have liked this page are Canadian, that means our ability to expand or gain attention in the United States proves to be limited after 4 years on facebook. I enjoy forecasting and using my awesome brain to good use, I often spend a fair amount of time defending myself and this page to some of the trolls who come to this page. This takes from answering real important questions from people who need/want it, and also takes from actually forecasting a tropical cyclone. Should I get enquiries for real Weather Specialists/Meteorologists to join this page, I would highly consider their requests to join AHC. I would even consider hurricane storm chasers to join the team. But I will not consider or keep regular people, who cut and paste information from other websites, and those who make short posts. Thank You so much for the support over the years (or short time if youre new here). Many of you will unlike the page, and I totally understand that. Take care, and best luck to you all! - Brian Rodgers Chief Weather Specialist AHC Founder
