Good message, good intent, but for the love of god buy those in need something besides McDonalds. Most homeless people are in urbanised terrain, not darkest Africa or the Sahara or the Alps. In other words, while calories (McDonalds being calorie-dense) are important, its not necessary to maximise calories at the expense of other nutrients - vitamins, minerals; complex carbs rather than simple ones; quality protein; fibre. It doesnt take that much extra in terms of time to locate a place that sells sandwiches made to order, and the extra expense is negligible, if it even exists. Sometimes you can even get the healthier stuff for cheaper than the McDonalds.
