Good morning Beloit. Happy Saturday. It is 54 degrees out and heading to the 70s. This is what we call in the business...awesome. It is Farmers Market day. If it wasnt for a need to sleep, I would be down there stuffing my face with all of the good, and healthy food I could find. I would have to sneak in an egg roll or something else also. With the weather being so awesome, it is the time of BBQs everywhere. There is nothing better than driving around the neighborhoods and seeing the smoke rising with that amazing smell, and folks out having a great time. This brings up a couple of things, and sorry to be a slight buzzkill here, but this story has a happy ending so stick with me... If you have a pool please keep a close eye on the kiddos. We had a near drowning tonight and thank whoever you believe in that the dad did great CPR and brought this little one back. This was almost an identical story of a recent drowning in Illinois with the exception that ours had a happy ending. If you have little ones that cant yet swim well please keep a life jacket on them, and leash, an alarm, whatever you can find so that they dont end up where they dont belong. We have all been at these events, and it is so easy to lose track of one of the kids, so do all you can to avoid some serious heart ache. We are so happy for this family to have a happy ending in this case. If any of you have any good tips for pool security, please feel free to share them. Even we understand how easy it is to lose track of a child at a party with a bunch of kids, and we just dont want you to have this experience. Having worked a few of these sad events in my career, it is something we never want you to have to deal with. During the overnight our 3rd shift troops managed to locate and recover a stolen ATV before it was even called in as stolen. The suspects had worked diligently to push the ATV for several blocks before running into a few of our officers on foot patrol. All of the bad-guys hard work was for nothing as they then had to leave their stolen goods and flee on foot. We will have a few follow-ups on that one. Officers also had an OWI arrest in the parking lot of one of our local fast food establishments. It is amazing, and somewhat scary how many times we have people who are looking for something to eat after a night on the town that fall asleep between the pay window and the pickup window. We are just glad that was where they nodded off and not while driving. Please if you are going to drink, do so responsibly. Waking up to flashing red and blue lights while craving a burger is not going to be a good end to your night. We hope you have a good and safe Saturday. BeloitProud.
