The Filibuster Nuclear (not nucular, Tea-Partiers) Option that - TopicsExpress

The Filibuster Nuclear (not nucular, Tea-Partiers) Option that changed a rule of procedure that has stood since the mid-19th Century, and that passed in the Senate, today this is important because: 1) Supreme Court justices will now only require a simple majority in the Senate vs the old 60%. That means it will be easier for the majority party to place S.C. justices. That means the tone of the Supreme Court will swing more often and more widely over time. 2) This means that if the President and the majority of the Senate are of the same party, the President will have an easier time appointing political appointees to agency head positions - essential for a functioning government. But, if the Senate majority is of the opposite party to the President, will mean more obstruction to appointing these essential positions. Upshot: Obama can clear his backlog of Federal Agency Head political appointees that the Repubs have been obstructing with the fillibuster, previously. And, and this is the most important bit - our form of democracy just edged closer to the British Parliamentary system where the election winner gets something closer to absolute power. Whaddyathink? No argument policy in force.
